W>hat exactly is the mystery of the Chakra energy centres?
Simply put, a chakra is one of seven an areas of the body that contain a dense vortex of rotating energy made up of two lines. “Chakra” is the Sanskrit word for “wheel”, which best describes the motion of the vortex that pushes energy around the seven points of the body in a figure of 8 motion, creating an up down stream that feeds through all seven areas.
Chakras were written about in the ancient Indian Vedic texts and are part of an ancient system that dates back to 1,500 – 500 B.C. but previous to that the teachings of this Tantric mystic system were passed down through oral tradition possibly for many thousands of centuries. The ancient Lemurains, who date back as far as 4,500,000 BC, were known to describe chakras as being “seals” and also used and the same yogic principals of meditation and breathing techniques to move the twin snakes of Kundalini up through the body and into the brain.
These seven vortexes of energy are positioned in a vertical row, starting at the base of the body that then travels though the reproductive organs, up the spine past the vital organs, through the heart, vocal area and through the pineal gland in the brain, before traveling out through the top of the head into the cosmos.
Each of these chakra centres vibrate at various frequencies, starting with the Hertzian frequency band at the base of the spine to the infrared, visible light, ultraviolet blue, x-ray, gamma ray, then into the point zero of the quantum world and infinate unknown.
Chakra teachings are most used commonly in today’s modern times in yogic teachings, where students are encouraged to “open” the flowing centres through meditation and breathing techniques in order to provide huge benefits to mental and physical heath.
It is said that when your chakras are aligned and open, you feel healthy and focused, but when the energy stagnates, one or more chakras can become closed/ blocked, leading to various, mental, emotional and physical symptoms.

The Seven Chakras and their meanings
Within the next section, we will look more closely at each of these seven main chakras centres and discover that each has a corresponding name, colour, element, number and specific area from the base of the spine to the crown of the head and how we can heal ourselves by mindfully focusing on specific ones.
Root Chakra
First Red Coloured Chakra
The root chakra, also known in Sanskrit as the mūlādhāra chakra, is located at the base of the spine at about tailbone-level. Best described as “the root of all things” , this chakra represents instinctual consciousness at the individual’s center of emotional and spiritual balance. At its most basic level, the root chakra is concerned with practicality and basic needs. It controls our senses of strength, commitment, stability, safety and is responsible for feeling grounded to our mother planet Earth and feeling deeply grounded as if one was rooted like a majestic tree.

The Sacral Chakra, or Swadisthana chakra in Sanskrit is the second of the seven chakras. It is located just below the navel and the center of your lower belly. It is associated with the element of water and the colour orange.
This sensual chakra represents the centre for feelings, sexual pleasure and emotions. It plays an active role in the expression of our sexual needs and desires. The circles in connection with the lotus flower petals represent the cycles of birth, death, and rebirth.

In Sanskrit, Manipura means “lustrous gem” and pura stands for “city”. Together, the word manipura means the city of gems. The Solar Plexus is associated with personal power and self-motivation.
It is related to our inner strength and self-esteem, warrior energy and the power of transformation. It is the home of our self-control, courage and love of oneself.

In Sanskrit, anahata means “unhurt, unstruck, and unbeaten”. Anahata is associated with serenity, balance and calmness.
It represents our abilities to love unconditionally, forgive and accept others and ourselves as one. When a person achieves a state of ultimate bliss or Samadhi, they are in tune with their internal self.

Crown Chakra
